How long until my order arrives?
-We ship out of La Selva Beach, California on either the same day or the next day, Monday through Friday. Once it’s out the door, domestic orders typically arrive in 2-6 business days. Heads up that holidays and weekends can add a day or two.
Who do you ship with?
- USPS and UPS. We pick whichever gets it to you the fastest at the lowest cost to you.
Do you ship to my country?
-We ship worldwide whenever carrier service is available. If your country isn't listed at checkout, contact us and we'll do everything we can to arrange delivery.
Returns & Exchanges
How does an exchange work?

Two steps, you send the original order back, then place a new order for what you actually want. Email us at (support@scglassworks.com) first so we know it's coming. We’ll process the new order separately; once your exchange arrives and gets checked, we’ll refund the original payment (original shipping costs will not be refunded). The customer is responsible for paying shipping costs of the return.
What is the return process?

Reach out to us first at (support@scglassworks.com) with your order number before sending anything back. Items need to come back unused and unaltered, within 10 days of receiving your order. Once it is back in our hands and checked over, we’ll refund the product cost. Return shipping is on the customer, and we’d recommend tracking + insurance since we can’t refund anything that gets lost or damaged in transit back to us.

Can I cancel an order after I place it?

If you’ve got an account with us, you can usually cancel through your account up until you get the shipping confirmation email. No account, or it’s already shipped? Email support@scglassworks.com with your order number and we’ll see what we can do. Once it’s shipped, it’s shipped.
Do you back your fins with a warranty?

We stand behind what we build. If a fin has a genuine manufacturing defect, not wear and tear, not a reef strike, not something that happened after it left here, we’ll make it right for up to a year after the order was received.
Can I get a custom template, size, or color?

Fins & Sizing
What size fin do I need?

There’s a rough rule that’s been passed around shaping bays forever: an inch of fin height for every foot of board length. A 9-foot board, 9 inch fin, roughly. But that’s the starting point, not gospel. Tail width, weight, and all the factors of how the board is built and the style of surfing factor into the decision. If you want it dialed in instead of close enough, email us at support@scglassworks.com and we’ll recommend the right fin for you.
What does flex actually do in a fin?

A fin with more flex loads up energy as you drive through a turn and releases it on the way out. It gives the board a springy, projecting feel, but there's a slight lag before it kicks in. A stiffer fin skips that lag, there’s a quicker response, more control, better for critical sections where things happen fast. Neither's "better," it's about what you want the board to do under your feet.
What does rake do in a fin?

Rake is how far back the fin sweeps. Less rake (more upright) tightens your turning radius, quick, snappy arcs. More rake stretches your turns out longer and looser.
Why does it matter what fins I run?

Fins drastically change how your board surfs. Moving the fin forward or backward in the box, different fins can make the way a board surfs unrecognizable. Your fins are doing more work in the water than almost anything else on the board. Cheap out on fins and you're undercutting a board you probably didn't cheap out on. Good fins aren't an upgrade, they're part of the equation.

How long has Rainbow Fin Company been around?

Since 1968. Longer than almost any fin brand still standing today. It started in a converted chicken coop in Soquel, where a couple of local craftsmen were hand-building fins because the surf industry needed them. Not long after, a young surfer named Glen DeWitt wandered in looking for a fin for his own board, he walked out with a job glassing and polishing instead. That's the same Glen who, decades later, is still running the company with his wife Kathy and their daughter Sarah. Same family. Same town. Same handmade process. Almost 60 years in.

History you can hold in your hand. These aren't injection-molded overnight, they're glassed and finished by hand, the same way they've always been. What's SC Glassworks' connection to Rainbow Fin Company?

I started working at Rainbow Fin Company when I was fourteen years old, learning the craft from the ground up. Years later, after building boards around Santa Cruz myself, I came back around and now build Rainbow Fins under an official licensing agreement with RFC. Same templates, same handmade process, same Santa Cruz roots, just carried forward under SC Glassworks. It's not a knockoff or a tribute. It's the real thing, made by someone who grew up in that shop.
